¿Cuándo utilizamos "por" y "para"? Parte I.

Una de las preguntas más frecuentes de mis estudiantes de español es cuando utilizamos "por" y "para" en español. Aqui tenemos unas reglas básicas que pueden ayudar:

Por es usado:

• to say ‘per’
Hago 20 pasteles por día.              I make 20 cakes per day.

• to say ‘(in exchange) for’ something
Cambié mi coche por una bicicleta          I exchanged my car for a bicycle

• with mañana / tarde / noche
Normalmente trabajo por la noche .          Normally I work at night .

Para is used:
• to say ‘for’ when something is meant for someone
Tengo un regalo para mi novia                I have a present for my girlfriend

• with an infinitive to say ‘(in order) to’

Voy a la escuela para aprender español        I go to school in order to learn Spanish

Bear in mind that the words "por" and "para" can be translated as "for" in English, although they can be translated as other things too!.

We will see some of the other uses of  "por" and " para" in the next posts.

Gracias por leer el blog!
